What factors affect steel supply prices?
Last reviewed:
Short answer
Price is driven mainly by product, specification and grade; quantity; order date (market prices move); taxes; transport to the delivery site; any cutting or processing; and payment terms. That is why published indicative prices differ from a final quotation.
Main factors
- Product and specification: thickness, size, section designation
- Steel grade, standard and required certificates
- Quantity and order size
- Order date and market movements
- VAT and whether the price includes it
- Transport and handling to the delivery site
- Cutting, preparation or forming
- Payment terms
How to compare prices correctly
Only compare prices with the same specification, the same unit (tonne, metre, sheet, m²), the same basis (VAT included or not; ex-works or delivered) and roughly the same date.
Prices shown on this website, where available, are indicative only; the sales team confirms final prices in writing.
